1. Does the Gameboy Advance charger work on a original DS?

The DS AC Adapter will work with your Game Boy Advance SP.  If the AC Adapter that you are using says Game Boy Advance SP on it, then it was made for that system and not the Nintendo DS.  I have both handheld systems and have used the Gameboy charger on my DS and it has worked fine,though I would invest in a DS charger when you have the money.  I have listed some cheap chargers for you to check out, you can even purchase one as a replacement incase you lose the one you have now.

2. What the hell does the 'SP' in GameBoy Advance SP stand for?

   "Special."

3. Can I take the rechargeable battery out of the GBA SP? Can I put regular batteries into my GBA SP?

The rechargeable lithium ion battery sits behind a battery panel on the underside of the system, secured by a single small Phillips screw. This panel can be removed to access the battery, but is not intended for the sort of fast swaps you've become used to with AA batteries in your GBA.

A set of AAs will not fit into the GBA SP - part of the reason for using a lithium ion cel, in addition to the battery life, is that a slimmer battery made it easier to size down the system.

The lithium ion battery will need to be accessed at some point, however - all rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time, and Nintendo says these batteries will have to be replaced after roughly 3 years of use.

4. Will my E-Card Reader work with the GBA SP?

Yes, it will. The E-Card reader only needs to interface with the GBA's cartridge slot to function. It will sit akwardly on the new GBA SP, and face upside down, but it will work.

5. Will the AC Adapter that comes with a Japanese GBA SP work in the USA?

Yes. The Adapter is universal, marked as "AC ADAPTER AGS-002

6. How does the GBA SP's frontlight compare to the one on a GBA modified with the Portable Monopoly Kit?

Early word is that the Game Boy Advance SP's lighting system is superior to the Portable Monopoly system: on the GBA SP, the light is pure white and radiates from all sides (unlike the slight blue tint of the Portable Monopoly kit's light, which lights from only the top)

7. This new lit screen - Is it backlit?

No. The GBA SP's screen is not backlit. The new illumination system is technically an internal frontlight (much like the Portable Monopoly modification kit for the original GBA).

Technically, it's the exact same screen element as in the original GBA - a 2.9" reflective TFT color LCD, with the same resolution (240x160 pixels) and color capabilites - the only difference is that it's lit.

8. Updated? Why did they update?

The GBA SP is meant to address a few concerns that players have had with the GameBoy Advance since it was released two years ago... the primary of those issues being visibility of the GameBoy Advance's screen (which many users have contended is hard to see) which has now been rectified with the SP's illuminated screen.

Additionally, Nintendo wanted to ensure the Gameboy's continued the GameBoy relevant. There is currently a great proliferation of cellular phone gaming, which Nintendo is trying to directly address with this newer, more compact unit. The new design is also supposed to appear hipper and more techy (resembling a cross between a laptop computer and a StarTac cel phone), in part to reposition the GBA against speculation that Sony might develop a handheld game system.

9. So, will I be able to play my GBA SP in complete darkness?

Yes - As long as you've pressed the small button on the face of the unit to turn on the GBA SP's internal light, you will be able to play in total darkness!

10. Will a Japanese GBA SP be able to play GameBoy games from the USA?

Just as with every GameBoy system that's been released, the answer is a big yes. The GBA SP has no regional locks on games.
