1. How To Use ANY Bluetooth Headset With Your Playstation 3?

So you've got your Playstation 3, a copy of Resistance: Fall Of Man and you're all setup to go multiplayer online. The only thing missing is a wireless headset to chat with your team right? The Playstation 3 uses Bluetooth for its wireless controllers which got me to thinking...what about a Bluetooth headset? Turns out you can pair ANY Bluetooth Headset with your PS3 for voice chat, here's how.

---Turn on your Playstation 3, and from the main menu go to Settings - Accessory Settings - Register Bluetooth Device

You will be presented with two options:

Register BD Remote Control
Register Headset/Microphone/Headphones

---Select Register Headset... and put your Bluetooth headset into pairing mode. On your PS3 select Start Scanning

---Select your device and enter your pairing code. In most cases for audio devices the default pairing code is "0000"

Now on your PS3, go to Audio Device Settings and change your "Input Device" and "Output Device" to your Bluetooth headset name. Try speaking and watch your "Mic Level" move!

While playing Resistance: Fall Of Man you can voice chat with other players by pressing and holding down L3. I use the Plantronics Pulsar 590 Bluetooth Stereo Headset with the cellphone, for Bluetooth audio on the laptop, and now for voice chat on  PS3. The Plantronics 590 allows for up to eight device pairings and it works flawlessly with the PS3 .

2. How To Set up a Bluetooth Headset for the PS3?To connect the PS3 bluetooth headset , please follow the below steps,

Step 1

Install the latest PS3 firmware by going to the "System Settings" menu on the left side of the cross-media bar (XMB) and then select the "System Update" icon. If you already have the latest firmware, a window will pop up informing you of this. If not, the download will begin immediately. You will need to be connected to the Internet to install any software updates.

Step 2

Enable your Bluetooth headset's "sync" or "discovery" mode. On most handsets, this is accomplished by holding down a singular Bluetooth activation button and waiting for some blue lights to flash. However, since Bluetooth models vary, consult your owner's manual if you are unsure how to enable this functionality.

Step 3

Go back to the "Settings" tab on the left side of the XMB and then scroll down and select "Accessory Settings". A new menu will pop up. Select "Scan for Bluetooth Device" and wait for your PS3 to detect the Bluetooth headset.

Step 4

Press the circle button to exit and then return to the settings menu for a final time. Select "Audio Settings" from the sub-menu and then go to "Input/Output Settings." You will see your headset listed there. Simply highlight it and press X to complete the process.

3.How to Use a Bluetooth Headset With a Computer

Step 1

Find out whether your computer is Bluetooth-enabled. Do this by going to the control panel section of your computer and looking for a bluetooth icon. If the icon is there, then your computer is Bluetooth-ready. However, if it is not there, you will need to purchase an adapter.

Step 2

Install a Bluetooth adapter if your computer is not Bluetooth enabled. Bluetooth adapters are fairly easy to come by and generally plug in to your computer's USB port. You will need to install some drivers and a management program, which should come bundled with the adapter.

Step 3

Enable the Bluetooth "discovery" mode on your computer. Double click on your computer's Bluetooth utility. This is usually found in the control panel if your computer already has bluetooth, or in the programs folder if you are using an adapter. You will then see an option that says "search for devices" double click on this option to put your computer in "discovery" mode.

Step 4

Activate your Bluetooth headset. On most headsets, this can be done by pressing the blue "power" button twice. However, if you have a high-end model, you may want to consult your owner's manual for more on this.

Step 5

Link your headset to your computer. Once your computer locates the Bluetooth headset, you will see a message pop up asking if you want to set up a link between the computer and the headset. Simply press the "OK" button to confirm the connection.

Step 6

Test your connection. The easiest way to do this is to open an audio recording program (such as the Windows sound recorder) and speak into the headset. If your connection has been successful, you will see it reflected in the audible visualization. However, if it has not been successful, the visualization will remain flat.
