Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter Features:

* Highly versatile and supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11a

* You can transfer high-definition video and CD-quality music from your Media Center PC to your Xbox 360 via 802.11a wireless media support

1. How Does a Wireless Xbox 360 Network Adapter Work?

Connecting the wireless Xbox 360 adapter to the back of the console in its specified location, and then connecting its USB cord, will quickly cause the adapter to install itself to the system. Since there is no built-in wireless adapter, Microsoft has created one with the Xbox 360 solely in mind. While there are other brands of wireless adapters for the Xbox 360, most do not install themselves onto the unit and can be complicated.

2. What it Does?

The Xbox 360 wireless adapter reads wireless signals from a wireless router. It reads 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, which are the common types of wireless signal produced from consumer routers. The dual band adapter allows it to be backward compatible with older routers, but the connection may not be as strong.

3. Does the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter require a power adapter?

No, the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter does not require a power adapter because it is a USB device, which means that it takes the necessary power via the Xbox 360 USB 2.0 port.

4. Is the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter compatible with 802.11a Wi-Fi networks?

Yes, the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter is compatible with all 802.11 Wi-Fi networks including 802.11a.

5. Do I need the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter to connect my Xbox 360 in System Link to another Xbox 360, or to a router to play on Xbox Live?

No, you don’t need the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter for System Link or Xbox Live gameplay. The Xbox 360 comes with a built-in Ethernet port and an Ethernet cable for wired connections.

6. How much does the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter cost?

The Xbox 360 wireless network adapter costs usd99.99 in the U.S, usd79.99 in continental Europe and usd59.99 in the UK.

7. Is the Xbox 360 wireless network adapter able to connect to another Xbox 360 via System Link, without the need of network hub?

Yes, the Xbox 360 wireless network adapter is what is known in networking terminology as a wireless bridge, which allows an Xbox 360 to connect to another Xbox 360 in wireless System Link, known in Wi-Fi terms as “ad hoc mode”. In this mode, two devices communicate directly over the air without the use of an access point. “Ad Hoc Mode” is also known as peer-to-peer.

8. I know the new Wi-Fi adapter for the Xbox 360 is USB based, but will we be able to use the current Xbox wireless network adapter with the new Xbox 360?

Yes, you’ll be able to use any Ethernet-based wireless bridge (aka wireless adapter) with the Xbox 360. Just plug it into the Xbox 360 Ethernet port and installation will be the same as with the Xbox or any other console. The reason why Microsoft made the new adapter USB-based is because they wanted to eliminate an external power source for this adapter; other than that, it is identical to other wireless bridge

For the price, it's more than worth it

I bought this product a little wary because of the VERY mixed reviews, since some people say it worked like a charm, while others just complained about how it did NOTHING it was supposed to. Well, I personally got mine off of eBay ($30 including shipping!) since I'm a cheapo when it comes to certain things, and I was able to just plug it into my 360 and viola! It was connected to my wireless network (after I added it to the security though)! I honestly don't know why it didn't work for some of the other people, maybe plugging it into the PC and trying to set it up messes up the setting, I don't know, all I know is, mine works, only OCCASIONALLY messes up (have to restart it... or my router, not sure where the connection failure is at), but all-in-all works like the official adapter and gets the job done just fine. Highly recommended for the price.

Buggy but working

Some people have complained about the fact that it needs an external power source, but I rather prefer not having devices drawing power from the 360. Less chance of RRoD that way.

Excellent Product...Worth your money

I bought this product recently and I was surprized to see its size. From the pictures on the web it looked kind of bulky however it is no more than the size of a sandwich and surprising light too. The setup was a cakewalk if you followed the instructions and you are online in a flash. I am very much satisfied with this product. Great Value for Money! The difference is in the price.. the microsoft one costs $100 and the pelican one costs $70 Retail. It is supposed to do the same thing as the Microsoft wireless adapter (connect to a router) but only cheaper and without using up a usb port.

My 12 year old loved the controller incl. batteries

My 12 year old was looking for an additional wireless controller so we both can play with his Xbox 360. This controller is in great condition, looks like new and even batteries were included. It works great and I am sure I will learn lots of additional games. Great Buy!
